Mariam Kharatyan
Mariam Kharatyan started playing the piano at the age of 6. After music school, Kharatyan continued her studies at the Music College with Romanos Meliqyan, in Yerevan, Armenia. From 2005, her studies continued at Yerevan State Conservatory. Mariam finished her Master Degree of Piano Performance at the Komitas State Conservatory in 2011, with top grades.
Kharatyan moved to Norway in 2012 and studied at Agder Music Conservatory, doing the Master Program of Piano Performance Western –European Music. After her graduation from Univerity of Agder, she has been working at UIA at the Faculty of Fine Arts as an Accompanist and Piano Teacher.
Mariam has won several national and international contests. Kharatyan was semifinalist at the 14th Grieg International Piano Competition in Bergen, Norway. In 2013, Kharatyan won the First Prize at the 5th International Piano Competition “Giovanni Musicisti” in Treviso, Italy. In 2014, Mariam performed a solo recital at Auditorium Stefanini, in Treviso, invited by Italian Academia Musicale. In 2010, Mariam won 3rd place in the ”Renaissance” International 2nd Contest Festival of Musician Performers in Gyumri, Armenia. Kharatyan has also been honored by ”Sorlandske Sommernetter” Festkonserten to Klassisk UIA 2013 Award, in Kristiansand, Norway. In 2012, Mariam performed Beethoven 3rd piano concerto in C minor in Sigurd Kohns Hus of Agder Conservatory, and in Som Church in Kristiansand, as a soloist with Agder Symfoniorkester, under the conductor James Duddle.
Along with her activities as soloist, Mariam is also an experienced chamber musician, playing in various ensembles. In 2013, Kharatyan was invited to perform with Laurens Weinhold (violin, Norway-Austria) in NYCMF (Norwegian Youth Chamber Music Festival) in Stavanger.
From 2012-2014, she performed concerts as a soloist and as a chamber musician at Ung Klassisk Festival, in Arendal Kulturhus, Kilden Teater og Konserthus, Kristiansand and at Risør Ung Festival.
In 2007, Kharatyan performed chamber music concerts with Armenian violist and composer Gor Hovhannisyan, in Kamar Art Music Festival in Yerevan, Armenia. Together, the two have performed in concert halls such as Aram Khachaturian Philharmonic Concert Hall, Komitas Chamber Music Hall, Arno Babajanyan Philharmonic Hall, Aram Khachaturian Home-Museum and Narekatsi Art Institute.
Mariam has participated in master classes as a soloist and as a chamber musician with Einar-Steen Nøkleberg (Norway), Eugene Alcalay (USA), Jan Jiracek Von Arnim (Austria), Anton Sorokow (Austria), Maria Egelhof (Germany), Kim Kashkashyan (USA), Diane Andersen (Belgium), Ashley Wass(UK), Konstantin Lifschitz (Russia), Rolf Gupta (Norway) and Nina-Margret Grimsdottir (Iceland). Throughout her musical career Kharatyan has performed numerous recitals in Yerevan and in other Armenian cities, as well as in Norway, Sweden, Italy, Hungary and Belarus.
