As one of the newest voices in Instrumental music, Vahagni has been bending the genres of Flamenco, Jazz, and World music to create a unique style of his own.
Vahagni was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1985 and brought up in a family of artists. Vahagni began playing the guitar at the age of nine under the instruction of his father, Sarkis Turgutyan, guitar soloist for the National Philharmonic of Armenia .
After several years of studies with his father, Vahagni's education and musical development lead to Andalucia, Spain to study under the guidance of world renowned flamenco guitarists Paco Serrano and Manolo Sanlucar. Vahagni holds a MFA from CalArts where he also studied with artists such as Miroslav Tadic, Larry Koonse and Aashish Khan.
Vahagni has played concerts in the U.S, Europe, Asia, Canada and the Middle East. Vahagni currently has three studio albums and a top 10 best seller in Japan. As guitar soloist, Vahagni has collaborated with the Pacific Shores Philharmonic presenting "Via Crusis" by composer Carlos Surinach and was called upon by composer Christopher Young or the movie The Killing Season starring Robert De Niro and John Travolta.
With multiple awards, 5 star reviews and a constant forward motion career, Vahagni continuously takes his music to new heights. Currently Vahagni is working on a album with guitarist Miroslav Tadic, a single "Fuga" with Tigran Hamasyan and his 4th studio Album scheduled for a 2014 release. Vahagni is also in the midst of developing a new show with visual arts and media collaborations.
