Hraïr Hratchian
Hraïr Hratchian (1971-) is a visual artist and musician. He is presently working on a series of solo pieces interpreted with a traditional armenian oboe, the duduk, and accompanied by atmospheric sounds.
He is the founder of De la Caucase (1998-2008), an experimental rock group, in which he was the lead vocalist and doudouk player. With this band, he produced 2 albums: Tes Lèvres Sucrées and La mort cruelle de Marcel Léart.
He co-founded La Désunion (2010-), characterized by improvisational sounds.
He presented the piece Veratartsir (2009), in collaboration with singer Maica Mia and Bardézoum Vart ér Patvadz (2013) directing a choir composed of 8 musicians.
Hraïr Hratchian was invited to play the doudouk for the German industrial band Einstürzende Neubauten by collaborating on the piece Armenia as well as for a series of improvisations (Rampe) for their Perpetuum Mobile tour (2004), 25th anniversary tour (2005) and Three decades of Einstürzende Neubauten tour (2011).
He also participated on projects and tours as a doudoukist and vocalist with New-York based saxophonist Matana Roberts (2011), Sam Shalabi (2009), Canadian band Esmerine (2013-2014) and Jerusalem in my Heart (2009-2010).
From 2014 to 2016, he performed in Canada, in France, Swizerland, Portugal and Lebanon.
