Arax Chekidjian combines an impressive technique with great dramatic gift and charm. Her remarkable musical and dramatic talents led her to become a diva.
Chekidjian was raised in a family of music lovers. At an early age, she showed interest in music. After graduating from secondary school in Lebanon, Chekidjian received her musical education in Romanos Melikian Conservatory in Yerevan. In 1978 she attended Gomidas National Conservatory in Yerevan to study Vocal singing under the direction of Prof. Datevig Sazandarian.
In 1985 Chekidjian found her own vocal school where many well-known singers including Talar Degrmenjian, Susan Haddad and Razek Francois Bitar (first Syrian countertenor) graduated from. In 1991 Chekidjian represented Syria in an international classical singing contest in North Korea winning the Best Soprano Singer title and returned home with a gold medal.
Chekidjain has been teaching for 23 years and currently works at the Opera House in Damascus.
